Captain Imran Khan Ruled Out Of 2023 Pakistan PM Race

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled on Friday that Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, will be barred from running for political office for five years. This will result in his effective elimination from being a contender for the PM’s post in the 2023 Pakistan general elections. This decision is likely to escalate political tensions in the nation.

Khan was disqualified, according to the ECP’s Sikandar Sultan Raja, who read out the recommendation, for engaging in “corrupt conduct.”

According to the panel, Khan had “made false claims” in his report of the sale of gifts that had been given to him by the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Dubai while he was in government, which is against the law in the nation.
In preparation for protests by Khan’s supporters, there had been a significant police presence outside the electoral commission’s office in the nation’s capital Islamabad on Friday. Paramilitary forces have been stationed around the city, and traffic has been mostly blocked off in the Red Zone, which houses important government structures including the election commission.

Following the ECP’s pronouncement, representatives of Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declared at a press conference that they will appeal the ECP’s judgement to the Islamabad High Court on the grounds that it was “biassed.”

As the “beginning of a revolution,” PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry urged his followers to “get out of their houses and take to the streets to preserve the constitution” on Friday
