Cyclone Remal Kills 10 in Bangladesh, 30K Homes Destroyed, 12 Million Without Power

The death toll due to the cyclone Remal in Bangladesh has risen to at least 10 people. The severe cyclone has destroyed more than 30,000 homes in the country and damaged tens of thousands more houses.

Most deceased were crushed under fallen houses or collapsed walls. Seven persons died in the Barisal district of Bangladesh. Three others died in neighbouring districts, some by drowning. In Khulan district, two people died. Another person died in Chittagong.

By Monday afternoon, Remal weakened into a storm, but winds and rain still lashed the Bangladesh coast.

According to the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, the country’s largest state-run power distribution company, power supply was knocked out to around 12.5 million people. Power supply will resume after the cyclone situation improves.
