Ex Lankan Prez Gotabaya Rajapaksa Left Singapore After Visa Expiry

Colombo: After protests over Sri Lanka’s collapsing economy, former President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who had fled the country left Singapore on Thursday.

Singapore authorities have informed that Rajapaksa left the country as his social visit pass expired.

Rajapaksa will now stay in Thailand, as he was allowed to stay in the island nation temporarily till he finds a third country to take permanent refugee.

The Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha confirmed the temporary stay of the embattled former President due to humanitarian reasons.

Reportedly, Rajapaksa still holds a diplomatic passport and he can stay in Thailand for a period of 90 days.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Supreme Court on Wednesday extended the travel ban imposed on the country’s former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa until September 5.
