Liz Truss Resigns As UK PM Amid Massive Economic Crisis

London: Bringing an end to a controversial reign amid fallout over her ambitious tax cut policy, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned on Thursday.

Truss’s such step came after her controversial tax-cutting budget that rocked financial markets and led to a revolt within her own Conservative Party.

“I recognise, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected. I have spoken to King Charles to notify him I’m resigning as leader of the Conservative Party,” Truss said.

Truss had succeeded Boris Johnson in early September, after emerging triumphant in the Conservative Party leadership contest over former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak.
