The mummified preserved body of an American mountaineer, William Stampfl, who went missing 22 years ago while climbing a snowy peak in Peru, was found after being exposed by climate change-induced ice melt.
Stampfl (59) went missing in June 2002. He was buried under ice when an avalanche hit the 6700 meters high mountain Huascaran while he was climbing it.
The Stampfl’s body, as well as his clothes, harness and boots were found to be well-preserved by the cold. His passport was also found.
In May, the body of an Israeli hiker was found in the Peruvian mountains after a month of his disappearance.
