Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi Prison Term To 26 Years

Naypyidaw: A court here has extended ousted leader, Aung San Suu Kyi’s prison term on two more corruption charges on Wednesday. With this, the total term now added to 26 years.

Detained since the putsch last year, Suu Kyi has already been sentenced to 23 years’ imprisonment after being convicted of illegally importing and possessing walkie-talkies, violating coronavirus restrictions, breaching the country’s official secrets act, sedition, election fraud and five other corruption charges.

The military alleged widespread voter fraud during the November 2020 election, won resoundingly by Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party, although international observers said the poll was largely free and fair.
