Tennis Star Martina Navratoliva Diagnosed With Breast & Throat Cancer

The 66-year-old tennis legend Martina Navratilova is diagnosed with breast and throat cancer. She has expressed that her cancer was treatable.

She is an 18-time Grand Slam singles champion. Earlier in 2010, she was diagnosed that she had breast cancer. But six months later she was declared to be well. Now she feared to be suffering from throat cancer as well.

Navratilova noticed an enlarged lymph node in her neck. Tests revealed that it was cancerous in nature. According to sources, the cancer type is HPV (human papillomavirus) and this particular type responds very well to treatment. Both her breast cancer and throat cancer are in the early stages increasing the possibility of a speedy recovery.

Navratilova is being treated in New York.

As a player, Navratilova won a total of 59 major titles, 31 doubles, and 10 mixed doubles adding to her 18 singles titles. She won nine singles titles in Wimbledon, which is a record.  Roger Federer won eight men’s titles while Serena Williams won the Wimbledon women’s title seven times.

She is an activist of LGBT rights. In 2014, she married her longtime partner Julia Lemigova. The couple lives in Miami with their two daughters.
