US Places 2,000 Troops on Alert As Israel-Gaza Conflict Escalates

Washington: The US military has placed 2,000 troops on alert in response to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered these troops to be prepared for deployment to address the evolving security situation in the Middle East. These troops are expected to cover support roles such as medical assistance and handling explosives, but no decision has been made to deploy them at this time.

This decision coincides with President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel, aimed at showing support for the country and preventing the Gaza conflict from spreading to a wider Middle East crisis. The situation in Gaza has escalated, with casualties on both sides and the United States has already deployed two aircraft carriers to the region to deter potential threats against Israel.
