Muslim Organization Slammed by Delhi HC for Opposing Rani Lakshmibai Statue in Park

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday slammed the Delhi Shahi Idgah Managing Committee while dismissing a petition seeking to restrain the installation of a statue of Rani Lakshmibai inside the Shahi Idgah Park.

The court remarked that history should not be divided on communal grounds adding that that ‘Maharani of Jhansi’ (Rani Lakshmibai) is a national hero, cutting across all religious lines.

“This is scandalous. Communal politics being played through court,” the court said while rejecting the plea.

Delhi Shahi Idgah Managing Committee’s plea against the statue was earlier rejected by a single-judge bench of the Delhi High Court, after which it moved before another bench of the court.

The bench of the Delhi High Court termed the Idgah Committee’s plea divisive and added that the organization was doing communal politics and using the court in the process.

Earlier, the single bench of the court had dismissed the plea opposing the installation of the Rani Lakshmibai statue, stating that it doesn’t see how their right to offer prayers or to perform any religious rights at the park is being endangered in any manner.
