Navratri Day 2: Worship Maa Brahmacharini to fulfill all wishes

New Delhi: Navratri has started and today is the second day of Navratri. Navratri is a Sanskrit word meaning -nine nights. During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Goddess Shakti are worshiped and Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day. The second form of the nine powers of Maa Durga is that of Goddess Brahmacharini. Here the word Brahma means austerity. Brahmacharini means the practitioner of austerities. It is also said-Vedastatvam Tapo Brahma-Veda, Tattva and Tapa are the meanings of the word Brahma. The form of Goddess Brahmacharini is full of light and extremely magnificent. He holds a garland of chanting in his right hand and a mandala in his left hand.

Birth Story-

In her previous life, when she was born as a daughter in the house of the Himalayas, she had performed extremely difficult penance to obtain Lord Shiva as her husband under the precepts of Narada. Because of this difficult penance, she was called Tapascharini, meaning celibate. She spent a thousand years eating only fruits and roots and for a hundred years, she lived on vegetables only. Keeping a hard fast for a few days, the goddess endured the terrible hardships of rain and sun under the open sky. After this difficult penance, for three thousand years, she worshiped Lord Shiva by eating only the vine leaves that had fallen to the ground. After that, she stopped eating even dried vine leaves and for many thousands of years, she continued to practice penance without water and food. She also got the name ‘Arpana’ because she stopped eating the leaves too. Because of this difficult penance of many thousands of years, the body of the celibate goddess became completely emaciated. Seeing her condition, her mother Mena was very sad and called out ‘U Ma’ to distract her from this difficult penance. Since then, Goddess Brahmacharini has also been given a name, Uma. Her penance caused horror in the three worlds. Gods, sages, and Siddhas all began to appreciate the penance of Goddess Brahmacharini, describing it as an unprecedented meritorious deed. Finally, Grandfather Brahma addressed her through the voice of the sky and said in a happy voice, ‘O Goddess! Your illuminating act is being appreciated all around. Your wishes will be fulfilled in every way. Lord Chandramouli Shivaji will surely be received as your husband. Now you should refrain from penance and return home soon your father is coming to call you.
