Mutton Biryani, Chicken Curry, Pulao, Kheer in Durga Puja Menu For Bengal Prisoners

Kolkata: Correctional home authorities in West Bengal have planned to serve a list of delicacies and Bengali cuisines to jail inmates during the ensuing Durga puja..

The jail inmates in West Bengal- both convicts and undertrials – will be served special cuisines for lunch and dinner from Sasthi (October 9) to Dashami (October 12) of Durga puja.

The delicacies to be served to the jail inmates include mutton biryani, chicken curry, ‘Macher matha diye pui shak’ (Malabar spinach with fish head), ‘macher matha diye dal’ (dal with fish head), ‘luchi-cholar dal’ (puri and Bengali chana dal), kheer, ‘alu potol chingri’ (shrimp with pointed gourd and potato), ‘basanti pulao’ (yellow pulao).

The Presidency Jail in Kolkata now houses former state ministers Partha Chatterjee and Jyoti Priya Mallick and R G Kar Medical College and Hospital’s ex-principal Sandip Ghosh.

A total of 26,994 men and 1,778 women are now lodged in 59 correctional homes in West Bengal.
