Misguided by Google Maps, Kerala Men Drive Car into River, Luckily Saved

Thiruvananthapuram: Two Kerala men driving to a hospital in Karnataka were misguided by Google Maps in Kerala’s Kasaragod distric as they landed up in a swollen river.

According to reports, Abdul Rasheed and his friend were following the directions shown by Google Maps as it was dark. They were driving their car on a narrow road and all of a sudden they noticed some water ahead. They were led by the Google Map to a river bridge without sidewalls.

As they moved forward, their car was suddenly swept away by the strong currents of the overflowing river. Luckily their car was stuck to a tree on the riverbank saving them from being swept away and getting submerged.

Both men quickly opened the car doors and climbed out. They managed to contact Fire Services sending them their exact location.

The Fire Services personnel arrived swiftly and pulled them put to safety. The visuals of this dramatic rescue went viral on social media.

A month back, in a similar incident in Kottayam, a group of tourists from Hyderabad were misguided by Google Maps to drive their vehicle into a swollen stream near Kuruppanthara. Due to timely rescue operation by a nearby police patrol unit and local residents, all four tourists escaped unharmed. But their vehicle was completely submerged.
