Odisha’s Tableau on Raghurajpur Craft Village May Roll on Kartvya Path on Republic Day

New Delhi: Odisha tableau depicting Raghurajpur craft village and women empowerment is likely to be selected to be included in the Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path in New Delhi in 2024. Odisha’s tableaus were not selected for the Republic Day display during the past three years.

The recent tableau model sent to the selection panel is designed by eminent sculptor Kirti Kishore Maharana and painter Gajendra Sahu.

Apart from showcasing the crafts heritage of Raghurajpur and women’s emancipation, the tableau will also have a Sambalpuri song playing in the background.

Sources said that out of all the 20 tableaus sent for approval, Odisha is placed in third place. But fingers remain crossed as the final selection has not been made.

As per reports, the selection panel has suggested slight changes in the Sambalpuri song and present it to them in the next phase meeting on January 4.

Tableaus displaying the diverse cultures and traditions of Indian States and Union Territories are an important part of the Republic Day parade.

The tableaus are selected by an expert committee comprising eminent persons from various disciplines such as art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, and choreography. They are directed by the Ministry of Defence. The models of tableaus sent by the states and Union Territories are evaluated in a series of meetings by the expert committee.
