10 Children Drown in Bihar While Bathing in River, Accumulated Water

Patna: At least 10 children drowned in rivers in Bihar on Sunday in separate incidents. Six of them drowned in the Rohtas district and four met the watery grave in the Katihar district. One child is still missing. All of them had gone to take a bath.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief and declared Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to the next of kin of each of the deceased.

Six children drowned in the Sone river in Rohtas district near Tumba village under Rohtas police station. The mishap occurred when one Tumba Gond’s family went to take a dip in the river. The deceased included three boys and three girls. One child was still missing. All victims were in the age group of 8 to 13 years.

In the Katihar district, the mishap occurred near the Sameli railway halt under the Kursela police station area. A group of children bathing in the flood and rainwater that had accumulated near the railway tracks drowned as they could not gauge the depth of water. Dead bodies of four children have been recovered from the spot.
