2 Women Die as Fridge Compressor Explodes At Hostel in Madurai

Madurai: Two women died at a private working women’s hostel in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai when the compressor of a fridge exploded.

According to police sources, the blast occurred at around 5.30 am on Thursday and following it the wooden partitions in the hostel caught fire. Both women were suffocated to death by the toxic fumes.

Three others inmates of the hostel suffered minor injuries and 24 others were rescued.

One person, in whose name this hostel was being run has been arrested over the incident, reported NDTV.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated.

The explosion took place at the Vishaka Women’s Hostel, near Periyar Bus Stand. It has not renewed its licence because of a property dispute.
