Kashmir Policy Vindicated As Polling Success Signals Shift: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted that the Kashmir policy of the Modi government has received validation through the successful polling in Jammu and Kashmir. Even separatists participated “overwhelmingly,” indicating a shift in attitudes. Shah assured that Assembly elections in the region will precede statehood restoration to the Union Territory, with a deadline set by the Supreme Court for September 30.

In an interview with PTI, Shah outlined the progress, stating that the delimitation process and surveys of backward classes have been completed. He said that the upcoming Assembly elections will follow, ensuring compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive.

The significant voter turnout in the Kashmir Valley during the Lok Sabha elections was lauded by Shah as a victory for democracy and a testament to the government’s Kashmir policy over the past decade. The Election Commission reported notable turnouts in key constituencies.

Regarding the absence of BJP candidates in the Kashmir Valley during the Lok Sabha elections, Shah explained it as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the party’s organization in the region, with plans to field candidates in the future.

Shah also shared his personal belief on the merger of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting its importance and its inclusion in the BJP’s manifesto. He stressed the need for serious discussions on the matter, signifying its significance for the nation.
