APG report: Terrorists’ reliance on cybercrime growing

New Delhi: Terrorists are increasingly relying on cybercrime, online fraud, and scams to carry out terrorist activities. The report of the Asia Pacific Group (APG) on the rise in illegal money transactions since the beginning of the epidemic has been kept under consideration. APG has found this out by conducting studies in other member states including India and Pakistan.

It revealed that terrorist organizations are now relying heavily on cybercrime to meet their funding needs for terrorist activities. The report mentions that such a situation has arisen due to the post-epidemic situation. Terrorist organizations resort to drug smuggling, smuggling of minerals and precious metals, and cybercrime to raise funds, the report said. It is said that the smuggling of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco has increased due to the lockdown and border closure due to the epidemic.
