Bihar Hooch Tragedy: NHRC to Send Its Probe Team for On-The-Spot Inquiry

New Delhi: In response to more deaths associated with the hooch tragedy reported in other districts of Bihar, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to dispatch its own team for an on-the-spot investigation.

According to the Commission, the majority of the casualties come from low-income households and are likely unable to pay for expensive medical care at private hospitals. The state government should give victims the finest medical care available.

The Commission stated in a release that the NHRC delegation is interested in learning about the assistance and rehabilitation provided by the State Government as well as the steps taken or planned to be taken to eliminate hotspots for toxic alcohol production around the state. A thorough report on the situation had earlier been requested by the NHRC from the Bihar Chief Secretary and Director General of Police.
