BJP’s Olympian Babita Phogat Supports Wrestlers Protesting Against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharma

New Delhi: Olympian and BJP leader Babita Phogat has come out in support of the wrestlers and their allegations against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Top wrestlers in India on Wednesday staged an unprecedented protest against the federation’s president Brij Bhusan Sharma.

Babita asserted that she supports the wrestlers and their allegations against WFI and promised to bring up the matter with the government.

“I support the wrestlers’ comments on the federation. I’ll make an effort to bring up this matter with the government so that the wrestlers can get what they’re asking for” Babita remarked.

She continued by stating that if the claims were insignificant, wrestlers of this stature would not have brought them up on such a big scale.

“These are serious allegations. This must be true otherwise athletes of this calibre would not bring it up on such a large scale. I kindly request that the government conduct a comprehensive investigation into this. I believe the administration has also made certain moves” Babita said.

Top Indian wrestlers on Wednesday staged an unprecedented protest against WFI head.

The government has formed a three-member panel to investigate charges of sexual harassment against WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan. Vinesh Phogat claimed that Brij Bhushan Sharan had been intimidating female wrestlers.

Earlier today, Brij Bhusan Sharma called Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and clarified the allegations made by wrestlers against him and the federation.
