Centre To Grant 42-Day Special Casual Leave For Organ Donation

New Delhi: The Centre will now grant its employees 42 days of extra casual time off for organ donation, considering how long it will take them to recover from the major surgery.

Currently, 30 days of such special leaves are allowed.

According to an order from the Personnel Ministry, “Organ removal from a donor is a major surgery, which requires time for recovery, including both hospitalisation and post-hospitalisation periods.”

Additionally, as a special welfare measure in the public interest, it has been decided to grant a central government employee up to 42 days of special casual leave for donating their organ(s) to another person, keeping in mind the noble activity of helping another human being and encouraging organ donation among central government employees, it said.

All types of live donors are eligible for the leave if they have received the proper government-registered physician’s approval for donation in line with the Transplantation of Human Organs Act of 1994, according to the law.
