Chandrayaan-3: Moon Now Just 4313 km Away, Next Lunar Orbit Manoeuver on Aug 9

Bengaluru: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has provided an exciting update on Chandrayaan 3 spacecraft via Twitter. A meticulously planned orbit reduction manoeuvre has successfully taken the spacecraft closer to the Moon, with the spacecraft now at a distance of 4313 km from it. The next operation to optimize the orbit is scheduled for August 9, 2023, between 13:00 and 14:00 Hrs. IST.

The Chandrayaan 3 mission is building upon the success of its predecessor, Chandrayaan 2, with a focus on achieving a secure landing and mobile exploration on the lunar surface. The spacecraft has covered around two-thirds of the distance to the Moon and is set to execute the critical Lunar Orbit Injection (LOI) manoeuvre on August 5, 2023.

The LOI manoeuvre is a critical step in the Chandrayaan 3 mission, as it will place the spacecraft in a stable orbit around the Moon. Once the LOI manoeuvre is complete, the spacecraft will be able to begin its descent to the lunar surface.

The Chandrayaan 3 mission is a major undertaking for ISRO, and the successful completion of the orbit reduction manoeuvre is a significant milestone. The mission is expected to showcase India’s capabilities in lunar exploration, and it has the potential to make significant scientific discoveries.
