Collective Newsroom Launched as BBC’s Separate Entity for Indian Operations

New Delhi: A new chapter unfolds for BBC News India as Collective Newsroom, an independent Indian media company, takes the reins on content creation for the broadcaster’s local language services. This development comes after a period of restructuring following a government investigation into BBC India’s operations.

Collective Newsroom, led by CEO Rupa Jha and a team of experienced media professionals, will focus on producing high-quality journalism across six Indian languages: Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. Their content will cater specifically to BBC News’ Indian audience and leverage the BBC News India YouTube channel for English content creation as well.

This strategic partnership ensures the continuation of BBC News’ strong presence in India, with a dedicated BBC newsgathering team in the country continuing to serve its English language digital, television, and radio outlets based in London.

“Collective Newsroom is committed to delivering credible, creative, and courageous journalism,” says Jha, emphasizing the organization’s core values. “Our team’s expertise will ensure diverse voices and perspectives are heard, keeping the public interest at the forefront of our content creation.”
