Comic Shyam Rangeela’s Nomination from Varanasi LS Seat Rejected

Varanasi: Comedian Shyam Rangeela’s desire to contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi was shattered as his nomination papers from the Varanasi Lok Sabha has been rejected.

Rangeela is famous for mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier he was a supporter of PM Modi but recently he has turned against him. He had announced that he will contest the Lok Sabha elections against PM Modi in Varanasi.

The 29-year-old social media star had filed the nomination on May 14 as an independent candidate from Varanasi. The comedian had previously alleged obstructions in filing nomination.

“There were proposers, the form was also filled in, but no one was ready to accept it. We will try again tomorrow,” Shyam Rangeela tweeted on May 13. On May 14, he alleged that the officials were not responding to his calls and he was unable to file his nomination. Later, he confirmed that he had managed to file the nomination papers. His nomination, however, has been rejected by the poll panel.

Reacting to it, Shyam Rangeela tweeted a video, saying that “democracy has been murdered”.

The Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in the seventh and last phase of polling on June 1.
