Defence Min Rajnath Singh Calls High-Level Meet Over Tawang Clash

New Delhi: After the clash between Indian and Chinese troops along the LAC in Arunanchal Pradesh’s Tawang sector, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday called for a high-level meeting in New Delhi.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan, all three service chiefs-Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane will attend the meeting.

According to reports, over 200 Chinese soldiers carrying spiked clubs and sticks clashed with Indian soldiers in the Tawang sector on December 9.

Both Indian and Chinese soldiers suffered ‘minor injuries’ due to the face-off. At least Indian six soldiers were injured in the clash and were brought to Guwahati for treatment.

More than 300 Chinese soldiers had attempted to get access to the top of the 17,000-ft peak and were thwarted by Indian Army jawans. Both sides immediately disengaged from the area.
