New Delhi: Alok Kumar Pankaj, an officer of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), who was facing a CBI probe in an alleged corruption case, committed suicide. His body was found on a railway track in Sahibabad on the outskirts of Delhi on Tuesday.
Alok Kumar was interrogated twice by the CBI in an alleged corruption case.
His name was linked to a bribery case after an assistant director of the ED, Sandeep Singh, was arrested by the CBI. It was alleged that Singh had reportedly demanded Rs 50 lakh for not arresting the son of a complainant. CBI sleuths caught Singh red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh in Delhi.
Singh reportedly also took bribes from a Mumbai jeweller, whose store was raided by the ED earlier. In the same case, Alok Kumar Pankaj was named as an accused and he was reportedly suspended.
The police are investigating to ascertain the reason behind the alleged suicide of Alok Kumar.
