Apple’s iPhone Manufacturing in India Set to Begin by April 2024

Bengaluru: Foxconn, a key supplier for Apple Inc, is set to commence iPhone manufacturing in Karnataka, India by April 2024. The state government of Karnataka has announced that the land for the factory will be handed over to Foxconn by July 1.

The project, estimated at a value of 130 billion rupees ($1.59 billion), is anticipated to generate approximately 50,000 job opportunities.

Foxconn plans to manufacture 20 million iPhones annually at the new plant, which will be located in the Devanahalli region, situated on the outskirts of Bengaluru, the state capital and a prominent technology hub.

The move comes as Apple seeks to diversify its production away from China, following disruptions caused by stringent COVID-related measures and to mitigate any potential business impact arising from tensions between Beijing and Washington.

At present, there has been no immediate response from Foxconn regarding this development.

However, the announcement has been welcomed by the Indian government, which is keen to attract foreign investment in the manufacturing sector. The government has also offered a number of incentives to Foxconn, including tax breaks and land at a discounted rate.

The decision by Foxconn to manufacture iPhones in India is a significant development for the country’s electronics manufacturing industry. It is also a major boost for the government’s Make in India initiative, which aims to make India a global manufacturing hub.
