2 Loco Pilots, Passengers Injured As Freight Trains Collide In Punjab

Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab): In an unfortunate incident at New Sirhind Railway Station, two locomotive pilots and several passengers sustained injuries when a stationary goods train was rear-ended by another train on Sunday morning.

The collision resulted in the engine of one train flipping over onto another track, striking a passenger train identified as the Calcutta-Jammu Tawi special summer train (04681).

The injured locomotive pilots, Vikas Kumar, 37, and Himanshu Kumar, 31, both residents of Saharanpur, were rushed to Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib, and later referred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for further treatment.

Reports from railway authorities indicate that a goods train carrying coal to the Ropar Thermal Plant was stationed at the New Sirhind Railway Station when another coal-laden goods train collided with it. The impact caused significant damage to the bogies of both goods trains and the engine of the passenger train.

Emergency crews responded swiftly, extracting the injured from the wreckage. Some passengers sustained minor injuries and received immediate medical attention.

The collision led to disruptions in traffic along the Ludhiana-Ambala route. Railway teams are actively working to restore normal operations. Senior railway officials are on-site overseeing the restoration efforts.

According to Ambala division officials, the derailment occurred between Sadhugarh and Sirhind, resulting in further disruptions to train movements in the area. Diversion routes via Rajpura, Patiala, and Dhuri are being utilized, with additional trains being redirected through Chandigarh.
