Lone Opposition MLA In Sikkim Assembly Tenzing Norbu Lamtha Joins Ruling SKM

Gangtok: Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, the sole Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) MLA, has officially joined the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), citing overwhelming public support for Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang’s leadership. With Lamtha’s move, SKM now commands all 32 seats in the Sikkim Assembly, effectively eliminating opposition presence.

Lamtha cited strong public sentiment and the SKM’s track record in governance as reasons for his decision, highlighting the party’s landslide victory in recent elections. He praised Tamang’s leadership and expressed confidence that his constituency, Syari, would benefit from the SKM’s development initiatives.

Chief Minister Tamang welcomed Lamtha into the SKM fold, acknowledging the MLA’s priorities for constituency welfare. Lamtha, a first-time MLA, secured victory over a senior SKM leader in the recent polls and had hinted at joining SKM to better serve his constituents.

SKM’s dominance in the assembly, with 31 seats initially, has now consolidated further with Lamtha’s defection, leaving SDF with just one seat.
