Majority of Indians Want Flights From China To Be Suspended Immediately

New Delhi: According to a survey, 7 in 10 or 71% of Indians said on Wednesday that India should suspend flights from China and forbid entry (mandatory quarantine) for anyone who had visited China within the previous 14 days. This comes after Covid saw a sudden uproar in China after the country loosened restrictions following numerous protests. In contrast to direct flights from Hong Kong to India, flights from the Chinese mainland now travel through other nations.

Coronavirus is currently wreaking havoc in China thanks to its subvariant BF.7.

Meanwhile, 16% of Indians want the government to specifically suspend flights from China and allow entry of China returnees via other countries only after a COVID negative report.

According to epidemiologist and health economist Eric Feigl-Ding, over the next 90 days, 10% of the global population and more than 60% of China are expected to contract the virus, with millions of deaths likely.

The results of the study showed that 87% of the populace supported stopping all direct and indirect flights from China.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a high-level meeting today to analyse the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in China and other nations and to assess the situation in India.

Additionally, the government has written to all states urging them to speed up genome sequencing and transmit any samples that test positive to specific Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium-INSACOG labs. In a letter to the states, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan stated that Covid-19 continues to be a problem for public health, with nearly 3.5 million new infections being recorded each week.
