Mob Sets Police Station On Fire Protesting Minor Girl’s Death In WB

Kaliaganj (WB): Amidst the uproar in Bengal’s North Dinajpur over the death of a minor in Kaliaganj, on Tuesday, the Kaliaganj police station was gheraoed by the tribal and Kamtapuri organisations and was set ablaze.

Along with many police cars, the police quarters next to the station were also set on fire. Several police officers suffered injuries in the altercation that followed.

The police responded by lathi-charging after being stoned by the demonstrators during the commotion.

Kaliaganj has been experiencing tension ever since the body of a young girl was discovered there. The girl was allegedly raped, murdered, and then her body was dumped, according to the villagers.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which is in power, has been cornered by the BJP on this matter.

A protest was held today in front of the police headquarters in Raiganj, North Dinajpur under the leadership of BJP MP Deboshree Chowdhary. Conflict broke out between the demonstrators and others who came to the summons by the Kamtapuri organisations. The police lathi-charged the crowd and fired tear gas rounds to stop the fighting.
