Not Dhoni, But Another Cricket Legend is ‘Captain Cool’ For Sunil Gavaskar, Know Who

For Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian batter of yesteryears, the real contender for the nickname “Captain Cool” is not M.S.Dhoni but someone else. In a recent interview with the Times of India, Gavaskar while describing the 1983 World Cup win of India, proclaimed that Kapil Dev is the original ‘Captain Cool’.

“His captaincy was dynamic, exactly what the format required, and his ready smile even when a player dropped a catch or mis-fielded makes him the original captain cool, ” he said.

In the 1983 World Cup, Kapil Dev was astounding with both bat and ball and his catch to dismiss Viv Richards turned the game in favour of India. Gavaskar said, “It’s hard to put in words what those moments after the win felt like. It would have made a great advert for toothpaste as everybody around us was laughing and smiling and to see that was simply heart-lifting.”
