Odisha tops the list of cyber porn, morphing cases against women: NCRB

National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report on cyber pornography and morphing cases against women in the state is very shocking. As per the data, Odisha tops the list of States where women have been targeted through cyber pornography and morphing. Out of 2597 cases registered in the country in 2021, Odisha recorded 301 cases of cyber pornography and 246 morphing cases, which is the highest among all other states of India.

In the early stage, the criminal lure unsuspecting women under the pretext of a good job offer or marriage proposal and then blackmail them through social media. Due to a lack of awareness, the number of cases is increasing with time.

“Anti-social elements steal photos of women from social media after developing relationships with them online. Then they make those viral on the same social media platforms in a bid to blackmail them” said cyber expert Prashant Sahu. He also added, “Social media is a medium. We really cannot blame it. That is why women need to be more careful on the internet and be aware of their surroundings.”
