PMO To Hold High-Level Meeting On Joshimath Crisis Today

New Delhi: A high-level meeting regarding the Joshimath crisis will take place at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) On Sunday.

Dr. P. K. Mishra, PM Modi’s principal secretary, will convene a high-level review meeting at the PMO this afternoon with Cabinet Secretaries, senior government officials, and members of the National Disaster Management Authority, according to a statement from the PMO.

Joshimath District Officials will also participate in this discussion through video conference. Senior Uttarakhand officers will also remain present through video conferencing.

Joshimath, which serves as a gateway to holy places like Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib, is struggling due to land subsidence, with more than 600 homes showing signs of cracking.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the impacted districts on Saturday and spoke with residents whose homes had developed cracks.

The CM stated that scientists and professionals from many institutions are researching on land subsidence in order to make recommendations and identify the causes. Dhami reaffirmed that saving lives is the government’s main goal.

The CM had chaired a high-level meeting about the Joshimath crisis on Friday. He gave the instruction to establish a rehabilitation facility in a more secure location during the meeting. He commanded that a disaster control room be established and that the danger zone be promptly evacuated.

The sinking, according to the residents, was caused by “unnecessary” tunnel-building work for the National Thermal Power Corporation’s (NTPC) Tapovan Vishnugad hydro project. The CM replied that it was too soon to speculate about what caused this when questioned.

On Saturday, 11 additional households in Joshimath were relocated to safe areas as 603 homes in the sinking town began to develop cracks.
