Prez Murmu, PM Modi Among Other Noted Personalites Condole Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Demise

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo and former Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away at the age of 82 while receiving treatment at Gurugram’s Medanta hospital, on Monday. The SP patriarch was receiving life-saving medication and his condition had been “very severe” for a few weeks. Akhilesh, the party’s leader, and Yadav’s son tweeted a confirmation of the news of the leader’s passing. Akhilesh Yadav tweeted from the party’s official account, “Mere adarniya pitaji aur sabke netaji nahi rahe.”

Born on November 22, 1939, Mulayam Singh Yadav was a prominent Indian politician and the leader of the Samajwadi Party. He served as a representative for the Uttar Pradesh district of Azamgarh in the Lok Sabha. Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and three-time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, rose to prominence in UP politics during intense social and political upheaval during the 1970s. After emerging as a socialist leader, Mulayam quickly became a pillar of the OBC, taking over much of the political ground left vacant by the Congress. He entered office as the 15th chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1989, the year the Congress was ousted from office, and has failed to regain control of the state ever since.

As soon as the news of his demise broke out, a pal of gloom descended not only over the entire political fraternity of the country but also the general public. Condolences started pouring in from all sectors of society.
