Rahul Gandhi Slams PM Modi On Release Of Bilkis Bano Convicts

New Delhi: After the Gujarat government’s submission in the Bilkis Bano case before the Supreme Court, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Taking to Twitter, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Talks of women’s respect from the Red Fort but in reality stand in support of the rapists. There is a clear difference between the Prime Minister’s promises and intentions. The PM has only cheated women”.

The Congress leader accused the PM of making frugal promises, alleging there was a clear difference between his words and intentions with regard to women’s safety.

The Gujarat government, in an affidavit, had submitted that the release of 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case was approved by the Centre.

The 11 convicts who were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Bilkis Bano case were set free under Gujarat’s remission policy after their application for remission of the sentence was allowed by the government on the ground of good behaviour.

However, the Supreme Court will hear the pleas challenging the release of 11 convicts in the case on November 29.
