Rajasthan Political Turmoil Leads Gehlot Out Of Congress Prez Race; Who’s Now?

New Delhi: Intra-party crisis and Congress are seeming to be two sides of a coin. While the party is set to choose a new chief to hold its grip for the 2024 general elections, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and the state political turmoil has become a headache for the years-old party.

A raging political crisis in Rajasthan and with Congress infighting at its peak as Ashok Gehlot is out of the race for the party’s presidential polls.

As per reliable sources, at present, senior party leaders KC Venugopal, Digvijaya Singh and Mallikarjun Kharge are running for Congress’s top leadership.

The matter is slowly picking its gear after 82 Rajasthan MLAs, who are Gehlot’s loyalists, tendered their resignation on Sunday evening.

They stated that the decision to induct the Rajashtan CM, in the case where Gehlot was elected as the party chief, should be carried out with the support of the party legislators. Referring to Sachin Pilot, they said that they did not perceive him as a leader who they could communicate with.

On Monday, senior party leaders Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge briefed Sonia Gandhi on the Rajasthan Congress crisis. Following the meeting, Ajay Maken addressed the media and spoke about the demands of the MLAs loyal to Ashok Gehlot. Ajay Maken termed the conditions for party resolution as a ‘conflict of interest’.
