Ram Navami: Know History, Importance & Significance

Ram Navami is a significant Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It falls on the ninth day of the Hindu month of Chaitra, which usually falls in March or April.

The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion throughout India, particularly in the northern and eastern regions.

As per Drik Panchang, Lord Ram was born in the madhyahna period, in the middle of the day and prevails for six ghatis (2 hours and 24 minutes approx.) which happens to be the most auspicious time for performing puja rituals.

This year, it will be celebrated on March 30, which is a Thursday. On Ram Navami, devotees celebrate the birth of Lord Ram by visiting temples, offering prayers and performing rituals.

They fast and chant mantras, seeking blessings and enlightenment from the Lord. The festival is particularly significant in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram.

The celebration of Ram Navami also includes the recitation of the Ramayana, a Hindu epic that recounts the life of Lord Ram. The Ramayana is often performed in the form of a musical play, known as a Ram Lila, which is performed in many parts of India during the festival.
