Remove SRK First: BJP Hits Back Over Mamata Banerjee’s Appeal To PM

New Delhi: Hours after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke in support of Saurav Ganguly and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send him to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the BJP hit back.

In response, the saffron party asked the Trinamool Congress chief to remove Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador of the state and replace him with Ganguly first.

Speaking to media persons on Banerjee’s appeal to the PM, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said, “Mamata Banerjee should remove Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador of West Bengal and appoint Sourav Ganguly as brand ambassador. Why has she realised his greatness so late? She should not do politics on this.”

“She should know that the prime minister does not intervene in cricket administration,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee said she was shocked that former India captain Sourav Ganguly was “deprived” of a second term as BCCI president.

Notably, Sourav Ganguly was appointed BCCI president on November 19, 2019. Following a meeting of BCCI stalwarts in Delhi earlier this week, it was confirmed that Ganguly will no longer run for the post of president. Roger Binny, who was also a part of the 1983 World Cup champion team, is said to replace Ganguly.
