Former Tamil Nadu DGP Rajesh Das Arrested for Trespassing, Intimidating Estranged Wife

Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu special DGP, Rajesh Das, was arrested on Friday following a complaint filed by his estranged wife, Beela Venkatesan, who serves as the state’s energy secretary.

The complaint alleged trespassing and intimidation, stemming from an incident where Das and his associates purportedly entered Venkatesan’s residence in Thaiyur, located on the outskirts of the city, on May 18. The intrusion reportedly followed an assault on the security guard.

Confirming the arrest, a police official stated that Das was taken into custody in connection with Venkatesan’s complaint, filed earlier in the week.

This development comes on the heels of Das’s conviction last year in a case involving the sexual harassment of a junior woman IPS officer, during his tenure as special DGP in the previous AIADMK regime. Following the conviction, Das had been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. However, a recent order from the Supreme Court granted him temporary relief, shielding him from immediate arrest.
