Kanpur: A passenger train in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district hit an LPG cylinder placed on the tracks on Sunday. Fortunately, no passengers were injured, according to police reports.
The incident occurred when the Kalindi Express, travelling from Prayagraj to Bhiwani in Haryana, was passing through Kanpur’s Shivrajpur area. The loco pilot noticed an LPG cylinder and other suspicious objects on the tracks and immediately applied the brakes. However, the train still collided with the cylinder before coming to a stop.
Senior police officials, along with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), rushed to the scene. They recovered the damaged LPG cylinder, a bottle of petrol, explosives and matchboxes. The train halted at the site for around 20 minutes and was later stopped again at Bilhaur station for further investigation.
An FIR has been filed and two suspects have been detained for questioning. The Kanpur Police have also formed five special teams to investigate the matter.
Additional Commissioner of Police Harish Chander stated that a forensic team is examining the evidence and assured that strict action would be taken against the culprits.
This incident follows a similar one last month when 22 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed in Kanpur after hitting an object placed on the tracks, prompting a security alert by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
