Trapped Miners Not Traced After 48 Hrs Rescue Ops in Assam

Guwahati: Three coal miners trapped inside a rat hole mine in Pataki hills in Tinsukia town of Assam are yet to be traced even after 48 hour long rescue operations, reported The Statesman.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were continuing the rescue operations on Tuesday.

These three coal miners including a Nepalese national and two from Meghalaya, got trapped when the rat hole mine caved in due to a landslide. They are still missing. Excavators are being used to dig the rubbles to locate the miners.

In September 2022, six coal miners were buried alive in one such illegal rat hole mine. In 2014, the National Green Tribunal banned the rat hole mining. But rat hole mining still continues in different parts of the north east region.
