‘Unprecedented’: Rahul Gandhi’s reply to Delhi Police notice

New Delhi: After Delhi Police knocked on Rahul Gandhi’s door on Sunday in connection with his remark on women in Srinagar, the Congress leader gave a 10-point preliminary reply to the Delhi Police notice.

Reportedly, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar, Gandhi said, “women are still being sexually assaulted.”

Rahul Gandhi termed the Delhi Police action “unprecedented”. In his reply, Rahul Gandhi questioned whether the police action had anything to do with the position taken by the Congress leader inside and outside Parliament and on the Adani issue, as per sources quoted by the news agency PTI.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi asked whether any other political party, including the ruling party, has been subjected to such kind of scrutiny or questioning over their political campaigns.

He sought eight to 10 days to give a detailed response to the questions posed by Delhi Police over the remarks he made in January.

According to Delhi Police, in January, Rahul Gandhi gave a statement in Srinagar during the Bharat Jodo Yatra that ‘I have heard that women are still being sexually assaulted’.

Taking cognisance of the issue, police had sent a questionnaire to the Congress leader and asked him “to give details about the women who approached him regarding sexual harassment”. The officials said that the details of the victims were seeking to provide security to them.
