UP Rains Claim 18 Lives Across The State

Lucknow:  As many as 18 people were reported dead in various rain-related mishaps throughout the state, on Sunday.

The office of the UP relief commissioner acknowledged eight deaths, and ten more were confirmed after separate district inquiries. Unverified reports, however, place the death toll at 27.

Two people died in Gorakhpur when a boat capsized because of strong currents on the Rapti river.

A 90-year-old woman was killed in Ghaziabad after being buried in the wreckage of an abandoned home.

Three occurrences of house collapse brought on by heavy rains in west UP’s Bulandshahr district resulted in the deaths of three 14-year-old boys and the injuries of numerous others.

While one each died as a result of severe rainfall in Agra and Aligarh. One person was killed by lightning in Pilibhit.

Two youngsters in the Balrampur district were lost amid flooding. While efforts were made to find the other boy’s body, the body of one of the lads was found.

Two people died in Kanpur Dehat, while lightning strikes also claimed the lives of one person each in Etawah and Sant Kabir Nagar. A woman was killed instantly and three other people were hurt when the wall of a run-down house in the Auraiya district fell.

Two farmers were also reported dead in the Hardoi district after being struck by lightning. Rain caused a house under construction in Gonda to collapse, killing one person and seriously injuring another. Similar to this, a woman died in Unnao after a wall fell.

Other occurrences, according to unverified accounts, occurred in Budaun, Bareilly, and Shahjahanpur.

According to UP Relief Commissioner PN Singh, they recorded the instances from 10 PM the night before to 2:30 PM the following day.
