New Delhi: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from the Paris Olympics after failing to make weight for the 50kg freestyle category, has made a shocking revelation about her meeting with PT Usha, president of the Indian Olympic Association.
After her disqualification, Vinesh fell ill and was admitted to a polyclinic in the Olympic Village. She has now claimed that a photo, shared by PT Usha on social media to show support, was taken without her consent.
In an interview with a local news channel, Vinesh expressed her disappointment, saying, “I don’t know what support I received. PT Usha madam visited me at the hospital and a photo was clicked. Like in politics, things happen behind closed doors; the same happened in Paris. I was heartbroken.”
Vinesh was particularly upset by the decision to post the photo online, describing it as mere ‘posturing’. She added, “While I was in the hospital, unaware of the world outside and going through a tough time, a photo was taken without my permission and posted on social media with the message that they stood by me. That’s not real support.”
Vinesh, who recently joined the Congress, highlighted that this incident left her disillusioned with the sporting world, suggesting that politics played a significant role in her disqualification.
