2 Injured as Security Forces Prevent Mobs from Torching BJP Leaders’ Houses in Manipur

Imphal: Two civilians were injured when as mobs trying to torch BJP leaders’ houses in ethnic violence hit Manipur on Friday night.

Incidents of firing were reported from Kwakta in Bishnupur district and Kangvai in Churachandpur district in Manipur on Friday night.

A mob tried to attack and loot the Iringbam police station in Imphal West. But their attempt to steal weapons from the police station was thwarted by security forces.

Following these incidents, a joint flag march by the personnel of the Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur Rapid Action Force was taken up till midnight in Imphal to check violent activities and the congregation of rioters.

A mob of around 1,000 tried to burn down buildings near the palace compound. RAF fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the violent mob.

Another mob tried to torch the house of a BJP MLA named Biswajeet. The miscreants were dispersed by the RAF.

A mob surrounded the BJP office at Sinjemai after midnight. Due to the intervention of the Army, they could not harm the BJP office.

A crowd tried to attack the house of BJP leader Sharda Devi, near Porampet in Imphal around midnight. Security forces managed to disperse the miscreants.
