33 Arrested during Illegal Cough Syrup Raids in Odisha’s Balangir

Balangir: Over 33 people were arrested for allegedly being involved in illegal cough syrup trade in Odisha’s Balangir district.

According to sources, most of the accused belong to Bargarh, Cuttack and Balagir districts in Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. These people were part of an organised inter-State racket involving illegal procurement, transportation and selling of Eskuf Syrup from Cuttack to Balangir.

Police have also recovered 12,960 Eskuf Syrup bottles whose estimated worth is around Rs 35 lakh, one country-made pistol, 17 mobile phones, one Mahindra XUV Vehicle, two Mahindra Pick UP, one Tata ACE Vehicle, two motorcycles and cash of Rs. 7,500 besides gold jewellery and other articles.

An account of nearly Rs 2 crore was freezed by the Police of the supplier company namely M/s. Daffodil Drugs Pvt. Ltd based in Kolkata, West Bengal.

According to the report, the accused were active in Balangir and bordering districts and trading Eskuf syrup from Cuttack to Balangir by importing the same from Kolkata.

After getting reliable information, a special team comprising Inspectors K Priyanka Routray and Srikant Sahu, Sun-inspectors Kiran Kumar Jani and Rakesh Behera and a team of Cyber Cell and DVF constables carried out a raid and nabbed the accused. The cops have also begun to probe into the matter.
