4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Bangladesh, Tremors in Assam & Northeast States

New Delhi: Tremors of an earthquake were felt in Assam’s Guwahati and other parts of the Northeastern region on Friday.

This was due to an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale in Bangladesh. The tremors were felt at 10.16 am (IST).

According to the National Center of Seismology, the earthquake, measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale, had its epicentre in Bangladesh.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra and Doda areas experienced three earthquakes in around seven hours in the early hours of Wednesday. On Tuesday an earthquake of 5.4 magnitude hit Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, causing damage to buildings and injuring at least five people. Its tremors were felt in Delhi and other parts of north India.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), on June 14 at around 2.20 am the first earthquake, measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale, was felt. Its epicentre was at a depth of 10 km at a distance of 81 km from Katra.

The second earthquake was of 3.5 on the Richter Scale and it occurred at around 7.56 am. The epicentre of this second quake was at a depth of 10 km.

The third earthquake measured 3.3 on the Richter Scale and it occurred at around at 8.29 am. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the third earthquake was at a depth of 5 km in Kishtwar.
