5 MLAs Suspended from Tripura Assembly, Ruckus Follows

Agartala: Five MLAs were suspended from the Tripura Assembly on Friday for “disrupting” House proceedings.

Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswabandh Sen suspended CPI(M) MLA Nayan Sarkar, Congress’ Sudip Roy Barman and three Tipra Motha MLAs for the day for “creating disturbances” in the House. The three suspended Tipra Motha legislators are Briswaketu Debbarma, Nandita Reang and Ranjit Debbarma.

Following this suspension of MLAs, the budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Friday turned into a chaotic spectacle as opposition parties joined forces to protest and demand action against BJP MLA Yadav Lal Nath. Nath had been caught watching an inappropriate video during the previous assembly session in March.

Opposition members staged a walkout from the Assembly to protest against the Speaker’s decision.
