5395 Lightning Strikes in 7 Minutes in Koraput; an All-Time Record

Bhubaneswar: An astonishing number of 5395 lightning strikes occurred in various parts of the Koraput district in just seven minutes on Friday morning. The district has witnessed a sudden change in weather conditions with rainfall and thunderstorm since the last three days. Such high number of lightning was all-time highe in Odisha. This information was revealed by the government’s lightning alert app ‘Damini’.

According to sources, on Friday morning a series of lightning happened in Koraput, Jeypore, Semiliguda,Nandapur and Lamataput areas of Koraput district.

The earlier all-time record in Odisha was over 5,000 lightning occurring in a particular region in 30 minutes. The MeT department has issued yellow warning to Koraput for the next two days. So, there are possibilities of more lightning occurring in the district.
