6 Killed in Assam-Meghalaya Border Shooting

Shillong: Six persons including one forest official of Assam were killed in firing in Mukroh in West Jaintia Hills on Assam-Meghalay border on Tuesday morning.

To avoid escalation of tension, Meghalaya government suspended mobile internet services in seven districts of the state for 48 hours from 10.30 AM today.

According to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the persons killed included five from Meghalaya and one Assam Forest Guard.

Mobile internet services have been stopped to prevent the misuse of social media, which can disturb peace and tranquility in Meghalaya.

Timber smuggling led to the recent violent incident. On Tuesday morning an illegal timber transporting truck was intercepted by Assam Forest Department Team. It had led to a violent clash at the interstate border.
